About The Artist

FOR THE LEFT BRAINED:

Dorianne Allister Winkler studied fine art at both the Instituto de Allende in Mexico and Concordia University in Montreal. She moved to Los Angeles where she worked for many years as a professional musician and recording artist before moving to Hawaii. She has been a children’s educator for over fifteen years teaching in varied capacities in both public education and the private sector. Since 1996 she has worked almost exclusively developing and teaching conflict resolution skills to children in the Hawaii public school system. Her programs for the prevention of youth violence have been called innovative and insightful. Also a founding board member of the Amicus Foundation, she presently lives with her husband in Hawaii where she works as an artist, poet, children’s author, and musician.

FOR THE RGHIT BRAINED:

A student at the famed Instituto de Allende in San Miguel, Mexico, Dorrie (as she likes to be called) learned to combine art and margaritas. After losing the ability to draw a straight line she returned home and studied fine arts at Concordia University in Montreal, a town where she grew up.

Heading for the city of fallen angels, she picked up her guitar and made some fantastic but somewhat cheesy commercial music with bands like Toto. The music almost made her diabetic while the music scene made her diabolic. After 8 years in this scene she decided to give it up for ocean beaches and a quiter lifestyle. Dorrie moved to a remote island in the Pacific with her husband and little daughter. Still not completely satisfied while living this slightly distorted American dream, she again grabbed her guitar, pen and paintbrush, churning out songs, music. poems and most important to you the viewer, “art”.

Pulling deep from within the unexplored crannies of her inner world, the artist gives us something truly unique. Some have called her works an explosion of love, laughter and exploration that questions our very reality. Her husband simply calls for help.
